We were founded in 1982 back when IVC was still Saddleback North campus, and the journal ran for 20 years, during which time we featured written and artistic work from numerous notable sources from all over the Southern California Community, including Garrett Hongo, Jo-Ann Mapson, Martin J. Smith, Tatijana Soli, and Emigdio Vasquez.
This Spring we are reviving our journal and expanding the community to reflect IVC's influence in Orange County and beyond.
The Ear is a unique opportunity for students, staff and the community of Irvine Valley College to engage in a professionally published literary journal. Student editors gain critical experience practicing real world editorial, management, and written skills, and student contributors get a chance to have their work appear alongside that of professional writers and artists. The Ear allows participants to be a part of an inclusive community that can set the precedent for their future accomplished careers while also providing an outlet for artistic expression.
All of these are exceptional opportunities, but they would not be possible without your gracious support. Every experience--from publishing a first poem to working with a professional printer--is key to the growth of our students, and we would love to continue offering these and more. Please consider making a contribution to The Ear so we can continue to expand and grow together.
We also invite you to help us revive our strong connection to the arts by donating toward purchasing a piece of visual art created by one of the artists featured in the journal.
